Shell, Eni take equal stakes in Nigeria offshore block

Lagos-Shell and Italy's Eni have each taken a 50% stake in a contentious deepwater oil block in Nigeria, ending more than 10 years of disagreement and arbitration over ownership of the asset, a Shell source said September 9. Ownership of the license to oil block OPL 245 had pitched Shell against indigenous Nigerian company Malabu Oil and Gas, leading to long-running lawsuits and international arbitration with the Nigerian government.
