Houston-At a time when approvals for new wells to be drilled in the Gulf of Mexico are anything but routine, US regulators have given the green light to a fifth new shallow-water well since early June. The well, approved late August 27 by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEM), is to be drilled by big E&P independent Apache at Matagorda Island Block 685 offshore Texas, in 92 feet of water. The company plans to use the Ensco 86 jackup rig to drill it.
