Houston-Although able now to tell a fishing tale about the 3,500-footer that got away, BP faces a more challenging task of blowout-preventer removal at its blown-out Macondo well with a 3,500-foot length of broken drill pipe attached to the bottom. “We have concluded that any more attempt at fishing will not result in success and have decided to recommend that we go ahead with removal of the BOP,” said US National Incident Commander Thad Allen in calling a halt to what BP had dubbed a “fishing experiment” to try extracting the pipe from the top of the BOP (ON 8/26).
