Suffering from both the impact of draconian OPEC production cuts at home and the global financial crisis, Angola's state-owned Sonangol has switched tack and is now actively seeking access to oil and gas reserves around the world.Dominant on its home turf, Sonangol also has a small interest in the Kiarseny block, offshore Gabon, and industry sources say it may be seeking to expand in the country.Elsewhere in Africa, it has set up a subsidiary in Congo (Kinshasa), and launched fuel distribution operations in Cape Verde.
