Australian Woodside's profit for 2008 rises 73% to $1.16 billion

Sydney-Australian exploration and production company Woodside Petroleum February 18 posted net profit after tax of A$1.786 billion ($1.16 billion) for the full year 2008, up 73% from A$1.03 billion in 2007 on the back of a 15% rise in oil and gas output and significantly higher commodity prices.Woodside's underlying net profit, before one-off items, for the year was A$1.832 billion, up 55% from 2007's A$1.182 billion. Despite the fall in oil prices in the latter part of 2008, revenue rose for the fifth consecutive year, posting a 56% gain to A$5.99 billion.
