Drillers Diamond, Ensco accelerate cold-stacking of jackup rigs; US Gulf, worldwide, 'a lot of idle capacity in the market'

Houston-As the current economic and industry downturn persists into mid-year, drillers continue to cold-stack jackup rigs in the US Gulf and in other global basins that were fetching top dollar just months ago. In an update to its early-June fleet status report, contract driller Diamond Offshore said June 16 it has cold-stacked three jackups- two 200-foot and one 250-foot-that the driller as recently as early June said it was "actively marketing."
