TransCanada profit drops; LNG projects 'on back burner'

New York-TransCanada May 1 reported first-quarter net income of C$334 million ($279 million), down nearly 26% from a year earlier, when the Calgary-based pipeline giant posted substantial one-time gains.TransCanada reported earnings before interest and taxes of $772 million, a 22% decrease. Its Pipelines segment posted EBIT of $611 million, down 28% from the prior-year quarter, while the Energy segment reported EBIT of $191 million, a 10% increase.
