India's private Reliance sees profit off 6.4%

Singapore-India's private-sector oil and petrochemicals giant Reliance Industries Limited October 29 reported a 6.4% drop in net profit for the July-September quarter to Rupees 38.52 billion ($812 million), as eroding refining margins offset revenue gains from new natural gas production. RIL's profit before depreciation, interest and taxes, however, climbed 18.3% from a year ago to Rupees 78.45 billion in the third quarter.
