Gazprom, NNPC agree on Nigerian venture

Cape Town, South Africa—Russian gas giant Gazprom signaled its intent to expand its presence in Africa by signing September 3 a general memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation that, among other things, would give Gazprom access to the natural gas reserves held in oil fields abandoned by Shell in the 1990s.
