EPA announces 2009 federal renewable fuels requirement

Washington-The US Environmental Protection Agency November 17 announced the federal renewable fuels requirement for 2009 and estimated the amount of biodiesel that will be used. The required volumes of renewable fuel, primarily corn-based ethanol, to be blended into transportation fuels in 2009 must be at least 11.1 billion gallons, or 10.21% of expected total fuel used, EPA said. The 2008 Renewable Fuels Standard was 7.76%, or about 9 billion gallons.
