Oil-sector protests become norm in Ecuador

Quito—Protests in Ecuador, such as the current conflict that has forced Brazil’s Petrobras to cut 35,000 b/d of crude output, barely make it to the front pages of local newspapers anymore. Road blockages and takeovers of oil installations have become almost everyday tactics used by local communities to pressure for more funds and projects from both outside oil companies and state-run Petroecuador.
