As US ethanol capacity outpaces demand and pressures prices, producers are making much of an expected 600-700 million gal/year of new demand from higher blending in California. But exactly when the transition will take place is uncertain, with refiners citing a needed infrastructure overhaul in a market where costs are rising and skilled labor is scarce.
