Shell's Salym JV aims for recovery rate rise

Moscow-Salym Petroleum, a joint venture between Shell and Sibir Energy, plans to increase the recovery rate for all three Salym fields in Khanty Mansiisk, West Siberia, to 37% by applying new technology, Salym's outgoing CEO Dale Rollins said November 23 at a press conference. The increase in recovery rate, up on the current rate of 29%, could potentially boost Salym's estimate of peak output of 6 million mt (120,000 b/d) by 2010, Rollins said. "We hope that the [2010] plateau will be higher and longer," Rollins said.
