New York-The lowest settlement price of the year was hit by the front-month light, sweet crude contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange October 11. The catalyst was a collapse in the front of the futures curve, which propelled the contract 93 cents lower to 57.59/barrel amid ongoing ambiguity over OPEC's possible production cut.
