Lagos-Nigerian oil unions gathered in the federal capital city of Abuja November 23 for an emergency meeting to discuss the next course of action in response to the death of a British hostage during a shootout between kidnappers and troops in the oil producing Niger Delta area. "The killing of the expatriate worker is criminal and unacceptable to us. Our reactions will be made known soon," Peter Akpatason, President of the blue collar Nupeng union told Platts. "We have always maintained that oil workers should not be made to bear the brunt of whatever grievances the militants have against the government," Akpatason said.
