US BLM,Forest Service unveil long-awaited rules for drilling federal lands

Washington-The Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service last week published a long-anticipated revision of oil and natural gas exploration and drilling rules on federal lands."The proposed Onshore Order establishes common procedures for obtaining drilling permits from either the Forest Service or the BLM," Forest Service chief Dale Bosworth said in a statement.The new version of "Onshore Oil and Gas Order Number 1," first published in 1983,would not,however,obligate the agencies to process drilling permits,or APDs,in a set time,as many producers had hoped.
