Moscow-The state-run energy companies of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan agreed October 2 to further develop plans aimed at boosting exports of Kazakh crude via the Black Sea under the so-called TransCaspian project. The $5 billion TransCaspian network would link Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan through a pipeline under the Caspian Sea, significantly expanding the Caspian/South Caucasus oil export corridor. The project would also give Kazakhstan's giant Kashagan oil field greater access to world markets, bypassing Russian pipelines.
