Venture Capital & The Environmental Industry

The environmental industry suffers from a lack of investment and venture capital. In this article, the author examines the state of start-up funds for the environmental industry as compared with other industries. She also describes the mechanics of a venture capital fund and the characteristics needed for successful start-ups. Finally, the barriers currently inhibiting the growth of seed money in the environmental industry are discussed as well. In the end, the author contends that leadership from the state and Federal governments will be needed to help overcome these barriers and help spawn a resurgence in the investment of new environmental businesses.
