China's August oil demand dips 5.8%

Hong Kong-China's apparent petroleum demand in August was 31.13 million mt,down 5.8% from July's 33.04 million mt,according to Platts'estimates based on recent data published by the Chi-neseigovernment.China started building oil inventories earlier this year in the run-up to the Beijing Olympic Games in August,to ensure stable energy supplies at a time when the country was in the international spotlight.Against this backdrop,China's year-on-year oil demand growth rose from a moderate 2.5% in May to 7.1% in June,then peaked at 9.6% in July,before falling off to 8.3% last month.
