Tesoro deal shows ANS prices hit by Canada,Iraq crudes:sources

Houston-US refiner-marketer Tesoro reportedly bought a cargo of Alaska North Slope crude from ExxonMobil Thursday at about a l/bbl below the grade's assessment Wednesday,reflecting what sources said was growing bearish sentiment in the US West Coast.ANS crude prices appear to be succumbing to pressure from recent weaknesses in the Canadian crude market,coupled with talk of Iraqi Basra crude heading over to the USWC.In Tesoro's deal,reported by a source close to the company,it purchased 700,000 bbl of ANS from ExxonMobil at a discount of 3.25/bbl versus February cash WTI for delivery in February.On Tuesday,ANS was assessed at 2.25-2.20 under cash WTI.The last ANS deal confirmed done for January delivery was on Dec 2 when BP purchased 300,000 bbl of ANS from ExxonMobil at a discount of 2.15/bbl to January WTI.
