摘要

Applications of supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), particularly supercritical CO2 extraction, in biotechnology are reviewed. Applications considered include: downstream processing or extractive fermentation of fermentation products, e.g. citric acid, ethanol, aroma compounds, etc. (for purification of required products or removal of inhibitory products); and extraction of plant biomass for recovery of aroma compounds, pigments, bioactive compounds, etc. Advantages and disadvantages of SFE and the response of microorganisms to the high temp. and pressures that may be used with SFE are discussed, and the potential use of SFE for food sterilization is mentioned.
