Mexico's new telecom legislation signed into law

Mexican President, Enrique Pe?a Nieto, signed into law last month a widespread overhaul of the country's regulations for the telecommunications and broadcast industries. A new regulatory body, Ifetel, will have oversight of the telecom market. Compared with its predecessor, Cofetel, Ifetel will have expanded powers, to regulate dominant carriers and even force asset sales to increase competition. Equally important, is the creation of a separate federal competition committee that will handle all other matters.
