Ruwais—Abu Dhabi Polymers Co. (Borouge) anticipates that its $4.5-billion third phase expansion project in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, initially scheduled to begin production during 2013, will be completely on stream by the end of 2014 (PCN, 3 Mar 201.4, p 2). A joint venture of Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. and Bo-realis, Borouge has successfully started up its third ethane cracker as part of the Borouge 3 expansion and has been producing on-spec ethylene since the middle of June. The cracker, which Borouge earlier this year predicted would begin production at the end of the 2014 first quarter, has the capacity to produce 1.5-million t/y of ethylene, and complements the venture's existing 600,000-t/y and 1.5-muhon-t/y crackers at the Ruwais complex.
