Dow Targeting 2018 for 20% Increase In U.S. Gulf Coast Ethylene Capacity

Midland-Dow Chemical expects a 20% increase in its U.S. Gulf Coast ethylene capacity by 2018 as the result of a comprehensive plan announced earlier this year (PCN, 2 May 2011, p 1).Dow spokesperson Jamie Ellis told PCN the plan, which includes integrating operations into feedstock opportunities available from shale gas, will increase Dow's total ethylene capacity by approximately 2.3-million t/y and its propylene capacity by about 900,000 t/y. It will also add 400 to 500 new long-term Dow jobs once all the projects have been completed.
