Freeport McMoRan Idles Third Deepwater Drillship

Freeport McMoRan said it will idle all three of the deepwater drillships that it has under contract in the US Gulf of Mexico as it continues to seeks ways to cut costs and conserve cash amid severe downturns in the mining and oil and gas industries. The Arizona-based mining and petroleum conglomerate said it continues to pursue possible asset sales or joint venture deals for its oil and gas business, but it had no news of any real progress to share with investors on Tuesday.
