Midstream, Retail Keep Marathon Petroleum in Black

Midstream and retail assets helped save independent US refiner Marathon Petroleum from reporting a loss during the third quarter of 2016, the company said. Marathon's earnings report shows that income from refining dropped from $1.4 billion in the third quarter of 2015 to just $306 million this year, reflecting a much more challenging downstream environment. Refining income was also down sharply from the second quarter.
