North America Boosts Baker Hughes, Schlumberger

Two of the world's leading oil-field services companies, Baker Hughes and Schlumberger, say first-quarter profits were driven by an improving North American market despite extreme winter weather that hampered operations at times. Schlumberger, the world's largest oil-field services firm, said its North American revenue was up $394 million, or 12%, during the threemonth period from January to March. The firm also said that marginal declines in the North American offshore were more than offset by increased service intensity and gains in market share, as well as from its pressure pumping operations.
