Human rights and environmental campaigners are calling Royal Dutch Shell to account in Nigeria for allegedly using "discredited and misleading" figures that purport to show that almost all its oil spills in the southern Niger Delta have been caused by sabotage. Shell strongly denies the allegations. Amnesty International (AI) and Friends of the Earth (FOE) filed official complaints on Tuesday in the UK and the Netherlands against the Anglo-Dutch supermajor for alleged breaches of basic standards for responsible business as set out by the OECD.
