Weak natural gas prices translated into lowerprofits for most of the independent producerstracked by Oil Daily in the first quarter.The combined net income of the six com-panies tracked by Oil Daily declined 46.3%from the year-earlier period to $3.2 billion inthe first quarter.The two largest liquids producers in thegroup — Occidental and Apache — werethe only companies to report higher profitsdue to strong oil prices. Oxy’s profits rose45.6% to $1.5 billion while Apache’s in-creased 58.2% to $1.1 billion.
