Kumba starts work on expanding just-built Kolomela operation

FAST-GROWING KUMBA IRON ORE is already moving to expand Kolomela, its just-commissioned nine-million-ton project still in ramp-up phase. The JSE-listed company, which is one of the world's best-performing iron-ore-mining companies, remains committed to producing 70-million tons of iron-ore a year in South Africa by 2019. On September 1, Norman Mbazima, currently CEO of Anglo American Thermal Coal, will take over as CEO of Kumba, at the same time as incumbent Kumba CEO Chris Griffith moves on to head the struggling Anglo American Platinum.
