China safety body to penalise unsafe coal mines

CHINA'S safety watchdog, the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS), has unveiled several penalties for unsafe coal mines at the same time as further accidents in three separate provinces resulted in injuries and fatalities, Xinhua news agency reported. As part of the crackdown, eight coal mines around the country, including one in the city of Liaoyang where a gas blast in March left 22 people dead, were shut.
