Anglo Platinum officials are discussingthe prospect of setting up a 500,000-tpyferro-chrome smelter in South Africa, fed by the company's own UQ2 chrome ore, as it responds to plans by the country's smelters to impose a tax on chrome ore exports."Until now, as a platinum producer, we have not been interested in the ferro-chrome game, but now we are seriously startingto lookatthis as an option in light of ferro-chrome producers lobbyingfor an export tax," Tim Aiken, general managerfor marketing in Anglo Plat, told Metal Bulletin.
