Chinese indium quota cuts turn Japan's sights to West

Japanese consumers will be looking more closely at western indium projects in the pipeline as the Chinese government plans to curtail its second-half indium export quotas, US market sources said. The new Chinese quotas, announced in July, will slash indium shipments from the Asian nation by some 30% in the third and fourth quarters, leaving China's top producers able to export just 93.2 tonnes of indium in the second half of 2010, down from 139.8 tonnes in the first half of the year.
