Toledo Mining is hoping to raise production of nickel laterite ore from its majority-owned Berong Nickel project to 1 million tpy in 2009, ceo George Bujtor told MB. Toledo, which owns 56.1 percent of Berong Nickel Co (BNC) in the Philippines, will ship the material to BHP Billiton's QNI operation in Australia as part of an existing supply deal, and to the Chinese spot market, Bujtor told MB as he a gave a rosy market outlook for nickel demand. Chinese consumption in particular is set to stay strong on good demand from stainless steel mills, even as prices on the London Metal Exchange remain high, Bujtor said.
