Energy gives mixed message for aluminium--China's powerwoes may spark aluminium rally

Lingering structural power issues in China could soon lead to a tighter supply/demand balance and higheraluminium prices, accordingto Dick Evans, Rio Tinto Alcan'sceo. Three-month aluminium has been hovering around 2,800 dollars per tonne on the London Metal Exchange, well below the 3,380 dollars-per-tonne record high achieved in July. Near-record stocks ofmorethan1.16 million tonnes in LME warehouses and lacklustre demand are major reasons behind the metal's recent price lull.
