ZHONGJIN LINGNAN AIMS TO BE WORLD'S TOP ZINC PRODUCER

China's Shenzhen Zhongjin Lingnan Nonfemet Co is planning a massive expansion which will take its zinc smelting capacity to 1 million tpy, to become one of the world's largest zinc producers. Zhongjin Lingnan is building a 500,000 tpy zinc facility at its Danxia Smelter in Renhua county in southern Guangdong province, a senior official told MB. First-phase construction of the project, which consists of 100,000 tpy of smelting capacity, will be completed by the end of 2008, he said. The second and final phases, comprising of 200,000 tpy each, will be finished in 2010 and 2012 respectively, the official added, Zhongjin Lingnan's subsidiary, the Shaoguan Smelter, located around 50km south of Danxia, will also complete a technology upgrade that will increase its zinc production capacity by 5,000 tpy to 300,000 tpy by the end of this year, he said.
