STABLE STEEL MARKET SEES WSD REVISE PRICING OUTLOOK

The failure of steel prices to spike in recent weeks has spurred two leading steel analysts to reduce the chance for a global price slump later this year. A last-minute revision to their second half outlook has Peter Marcus and Karlis Kirsis, managing directors of World Steel Dynamics, increasing the odds that, instead of rising and then falling back, prices will remain fairly steady for the rest of 2006. "A few weeks ago we expected the hot rolled band price to rise from a current 600 dollars per [short] ton by another 75-100 dollars to 675-700 dollars per ton, but now it's stabilised at 600 dollars per ton," said Kirsis last week following his and Marcus' annual outlook address at Steel Success Strategies XXI conference, sponsored by WSD and American Metal Market
