Beijing may raise the existing 5-percent export tax on ferro-silicon next year, industry sources said. The change may be implemented after the Chinese New Year holiday on January 29, and involve an increase of 3-5 percent, traders said. One trader said changes could be in the works for all ferro-alloys. "Officials from the National Development & Reform Commission mentioned at a working meeting at the end of November in Fuzhou [in south China] that the government had planned to impose an extra 8-15-percent tax on all ferro alloys exports in January, but then decided to delay the tax change until after the Chinese New Year," she said.
