The 1.8 million tpy plant resumed operations in May while the 2 million tpy unit is only 56 percent complete. Once that unit is completed in October 2006, it will have capacity of 3 million tpy, said the spokesman. The second stage would see INI building a second blast furnace and another 3.5 million tpy upstream facility. By this time, it would be producing 7 million tpy of upstream steel products, but only 5 million tpy of HRC, hence the need either to build a new HRC plant or expand the existing HRC units to compensate for the 2 million tpy shortfall, the spokesman said
