Yangquan plans 100,000 tpy smelter

Yangquan Aluminium Co is preparing to begin work on the installation of a 100,000 tpy smelter only days after commissioning 30,000 tpy of new capacity at its existing plant. Installation of the new prebake smelter is scheduled to begin next year. When construction is completed in 2005, Yangquan's overall production capacity will be 160,000 tpy. The investment, which will cost just short of 1bn yuan (120 million dollars), will be financed both by Yangquan itself and the Shanxi provincial government, said a company official.
