China's Zhengzhou No 2 Steelworks has teamed up with the government of Sudan with a view to installing the African country's first hot strip mill. Lu Mingwang, senior engineer at Zhengzhou No 2 Steelworks, told MB that construction work is scheduled to begin shortly, with a view to bringing the 200,000 tpy plant on stream by June nest year. Zhengzhou will not inject any capital into the "strategic partnership", but will contribute technical knowledge and backing, said Lu. "The hot strip mill will employ technological know-how developed by Zhengzhou No 2's research and engineering institute," said Lu. "All of the metal will be sold entirely in Sudan," he added. The new mill will rely on imported slab as raw material feed.
