If 2012 is any indication, the New Year will bring continued pledges from retailers and food manufacturers to move away from the use of gestation crates for pregnant sows, while the constitutionality of California's Proposition 2 will continue to be challenged in state courts there. It's also possible that animal producers across the meat, poultry and pork industry could feel increasing pressure to take and publicize the actions they're taking to raise animals in "humane" ways.
