California keen to include BPA on Prop 65 warning list

California state regulators are poised to add bisphenol A (BPA) to the state's list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm, a move that could result in warning labels for some products that contain the controversial chemical. California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA),on Jan. 25, issued a notice of intent to list BPA under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, aka Proposition 65. In conjunction with the listing, the agency also is proposing to set a maximum allowable dose level (MADL) of 290 micrograms per day, requiring any products exceeding that level to contain warning labels.
