European Commission won't act on BPA until EFSA publishes opinion next year

European Health Commissioner Tonio Borg has confirmed that the European Commission won't issue any proposals on the controversial food packaging material bisphenol A (BPA) until the European Food Safety Authority publishes a full risk assessment in the second quarter of next year, EU Food Law reports. EFSA had been expected to publish the opinion in May, but it was postponed until November and then pushed back again to next year. In the meantime, members of the European Parliament and consumer advocacy groups are pressing the Commission for a crackdown, pointing to different published studies.
