The U.S. meat industry is torn between insisting that countries, such as Russia and China, remove their bans on meat imports containing ractopamine residues or pleading with USDA to set up a ractopamine-free certification program to accommodate these customers. Russia banned imports of U.S. pork, beef and turkey, effective Feb. 11 , blaming the United States for failing to set up a system to guarantee ractopamine-free shipments. China followed suit last Friday.
