Brazilian biotech crop acreage rose by 21% this year

Adoption of genetically engineered crops has risen by almost 21% in Brazil this year, the agricultural newswire Agrolink reports, citing estimates from agricultural market researchers Celeres.The area planted with GE cotton, corn and soybeans is estimated to have reached 31.8 million hectares (ha) for the 2011-12 growing season. The estimate considered the period between the stated intention of planting and the start of actual sowing, and it beats the previous Celeres estimate of 30.5 million ha made in August.
