Transgenic salmon looms as leading biotech issue in late 2011

Several major issues will continue to confront the ag biotech industry and its opponents in the second half of 2011, based on recent interviews with regulatory analysts at the Biotechnology Industry Organization, Grocery Manufacturers Association, Center for Science in the Public Interest and the Union of Concerned Scientists. We asked them to identify the issues that concern them the most and ranked their responses below:1. Transgenic salmon. The FDAhas never before approved the safety of a genetically engineered food animal, so it's possible approval of AquaBounty Technologies' application for commercialization of a genetically engineered salmon phenotype is the issue of most concern among those following biotechnology issues going into the second half of the year.
