Paraguayan meat exporters face three years of trade restrictions following a Sept. 18 outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), but trade and agriculture officials already are travelling to critical foreign markets in an attempt to mend fences."We believe that the outbreak is completely under control, so as of mid-October we will solicit international verification of our controls as the first step toward renewing meat exports," explains Flaminio Acosta, field service director for the national emergency sanitation service (Sinaesa) in the state of San Pedro, where the outbreak took place.
