US. District Judge Jeffrey White, in San Francisco, is poised to issue a restraining order that would at least temporarily halt the planting of seed stock for Roundup Ready sugarbeets, a 13-page motions ruling strongly suggests. White's latest ruling, issued Tuesday, responds to four sets of motions in relation to the Center for Food Safety v. Vilsack case. The judge grants motions to intervene filed by Betaseed Inc., Monsanto Company and Syngenta Seeds Inc. He also allows the interveners and American Crystal Sugar Company to file friend-of-the-court briefs, and he allows them to do so in a shortened timeframe.
