Egypt's phosphate players seek finance at Red Sea conference

Egypt's phosphate players will meet in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh this week for the Egypt Economic Development Conference. A number of phosphate complexes are on the drawing board in Egypt, requiring billions of dollars in investment, and talks this week between developers and financiers are expected to be intense. Last month Misr Phosphate and Abu Qir signed an MoU for a $1.2 billion complex at Abu Tartur, close to the rock source. The plant's planned production capacity is 500,000 mt/y P2O5 phosphoric acid, 350,000 mt TSP and 350,000 mt DAP. Completion is aimed for 2018.
